Our story technically begins in 1998 after Matias and his family moved to McAllen and were in search of a home church. My family had been members of Calvary Baptist Church for a long time (my mom, dad, and I were all baptized in it and my parents got married there) and one Sunday, I met Matias; let's just say it wasn't love at first sight! Haha!
Throughout the years Matias and I grew up but we were always in the same Sunday School class and same church activities. We knew who each other were but we weren't really close. Then in the summer of 2005 I was helping our interim youth pastor plan activities for the youth group and Matias was starting to get back involved in the youth group. We learned that we both had a mutual love of baseball and started talking through AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Shortly after Matias got his first cell phone and I was one of the first people he put in it and the first call that he made.
My family had season tickets to the local minor league baseball team (the Edinburg Roadrunners) and they would always let me invited friends to the game. On August 5, 2005 I invited Matias and also my friend Ann-Marie. After the baseball game was over Matias asked me to be his girlfriend and you can say the rest is history.
