How he proposed

On Saturday March 27th we were having an early birthday party to celebrate Matias’ 20th birthday. All of our family and close friends were there. He had gotten his roommates parents to record a birthday rap for him that would begin a photo scavenger hunt to win "his birthday present".  The teams were divided up girls vs. boys. I am normally very competitive and got into the scavenger hunt right away.

The scavenger hunt had 6 different locations that were significant in our relationship but I never noticed until the last stop. The whole time I was just thinking about how we had to beat the guys. The first stop was Grace Bible Church, which is the church we attend together. This was important because we met in church and our relationship has always been centered around Christ. The second stop was at a baseball field, which represented where Matias asked me out and where we had our first kiss. The third stop was at a movie theater, because this is where we had our first "official date," plus we really love movies. The fourth stop was at a high school in town because we were high school sweethearts. The fifth stop was at a set of dorms at Texas A&M University (The Commons) that we lived in our freshman year of college. The last and final stop was at a Spence park which is right across from our football stadium and people normally tailgate their before games.

In the center of the park is a gazebo which is where we were supposed to head to take the photo. I was running to get there first to take the photo and suddenly I noticed that I was way ahead of the rest of my team so I slowed down as I began to realize what was happening. The guys teams were all standing in front of the gazebo and when I got in front of them they parted and I saw Matias standing there with a bouquet of red roses. He handed me the roses and directed me toward a bench. The whole place was filled with pictures of us, candles, and lights. He got down on one knee and told me how I am his best friend and asked if I would marry him. He then read my favorite verse 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 out of the bible that I gave him our first Christmas together (4 year prior). By the end everyone was pretty much crying and it was really special since all of our family and friends were there and the whole thing was caught on video camera and pictures were taken.

After that we headed back to his house to celebrate his birthday and our engagement. The next day we went to the Century Tree to walk under it for the first time. This is a tradition at A&M, that whoever you walk under the tree with is the person that you will spend the rest of your life with. It symbolizes that you will be together forever.
